Why You Should Challenge Yourself
Our BBR challenge for the week is all about goal-setting, and we hope you’re participating with us! As you set your goals, we encourage you to make sure that they’re going to challenge you.
Today, we’re going to talk about why it’s so important to challenge yourself!
Challenging Yourself Teaches You New Skills.
Challenging yourself presents a unique opportunity to develop new skills. For example, let’s say you’ve never cooked, but you really want to try it for the first time. If you never actually set foot in the kitchen, you won’t suddenly wake up with the knowledge of how to cook. But if you push yourself to give it a try, you’ll be able to develop those skills for the first time.
Of course, the skills that you pick up as you challenge yourself may not be what you expected. You may learn how to be patient with yourself as you work to transform your life. You may learn how to avoid becoming frustrated when you don’t reach your goals overnight. You may learn how to rely on your support system when you encounter obstacles. There are a lot of skills that you can develop when you challenge yourself, and it’s only by pushing yourself the first time and deciding to make the change that you learn and grow.
Challenging Yourself Shows You What You Can Do.
Challenging yourself can be a little uncomfortable. It can be scary to put yourself out there and risk coming up short! But you’re capable of more than you think, and challenging yourself is the best way to prove that.
As you adapt to the challenges you set for yourself, you’ll create new skills and develop the ones you already have. You may surprise yourself at what you accomplish. And even if you fall short, you’ll know that you tried something hard and did your best. Take pride in that and keep working at it. If you continue to challenge yourself, there’s no telling what you can do!
